TY Jacqui. Hercules, I was thinking something like that.

So the shoddy is cheap re-spun wool
Mungo is a cheap felt made from the crushed fibre We learn something new every day |

Shoddy is actually cheap, re-spun fibre Irene. There is cotton shoddy for example.

Kind of looks like dryer lint.

Rag and Bone men. They used to come around our street when I was a lad. The horse would walk slowly up the road while the owner Rang a Bell. They used to do a
very trade, as did the Pawn shops, a way of life, as were the Gypsies selling Cloths pegs and Lavender which every one bought for fear of offending them and
being cursed

Yes Jacqui, and then they compress the fibres and make it into felt.

I had the impression that the crushed version was mungo Irene. The only references I've seen to shoddy have all been woven ones.

That shoddy looks very much like the stuffing in my Edwardian sofas ... which my cats have scratched out!

Have they come across any small change Julia?

The pound coins are mine, they dropped down the back when I was visiting.
