How to fail and cause the Mother of Parliaments to fall into disrespect, and still be grated a Peerage. Words fail me.

Wonder how many vote he would have received, if such were elected?

It does tend to bring the status of the House of Lords down to the level of a retirement home for the bewildered.

Bewildered I can live with, Crooks and Con persons, no way.
I wonder what happened to the two Lords and a Baroness, who were being investigated for fraud? |

It's time such people earned their votes instead of happening to represent a party that people vote for out of habit.

It's time such people earned their votes instead of happening to represent a party that people vote for out of habit. Jacqui I believe that to be correct. But as we saw in the EU elections, things are changing. The worry now is whether a single party will receive enough votes to form a government. Or we will see groups representing small 'issue parties' in a much more powerful position. |

The worry now is whether a single party will receive enough votes to form a government. Or we will see groups representing small 'issue parties' in a much more powerful position. - WolfWouldn't that provide a much more democratic system of government than the one we have now? At least, the people whose views these parties represent should get a better chance to have their voices heard. All I'm seeing at the moment is a powerful and corrupt political party paying 'lip service' to its voters whilst confining its activities to those that are most likely to win it re-election. Whether or not a party is re-elected shouldn't be the basis for running a country. Once a party has become obsessed with re-election it's time to change to another party - or parties - who put the interests of the country as a whole at the top of their agenda. |

I entirely agree Jacqui, as to smaller parties which would in turn represent the voters, but. What if say the Ukip party got as many seats a say the Lib/Dems.
Now where as I agree with cutting back on the monster we see as the EU, as we are seieing right now with those who laughly call the Iran election fair a solid
re-call of all EU Ambassadors from Iran would help greatly to get some common sense into the situation. However if the Ukip party held sway would we lose all
the advantages we might have were we to belong to what first started as a Common Party, before it got out of Hand. Again as we saw in the EU elections the BNP
did very well, and I don't for one minute think all who voted BNP were voting for a Racist party, they were using the BNP to poke the main parties in the
eye, and judging by the reaction if the shower in power it worked to some extent.
But I do think the age of mass voting for a Party after the let down of Blair and his All style and no substance act, will effect the next election, and we could as you say see more voter involvement, which would be welcomed. |
