Well, since then she has joined a new local music group which is held at Manchesters Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) each week and this evening they performed their first concert there. It was wonderful and all the youngsters played amazingly well, especially since all (except one) have special needs. This music group was set up in December 2006 to provide music provision to people with special needs. It is extremely well supported mostly by students of the RNCM who volunteer their own time to support these young adults. "> The concert orchestra consists of both the young musicians and their teachers (students of the RNCM). Heres Chantal performing her solo pieces. And here's the group after the concert. Chantal looks brill, can she read music as well? I used to read music a little when i played (a bit) the guitar, and i know how hard it is!! You must be so proud of her.

I forgot to say that this is also the first time she's had the opportunity to play her 'new' old French violin that I bought her in the summer and the tone is so much better than her previous cheapo violin. They all thoroughly enjoyed it and it's such an achievement for them as several have Down's syndrome (including my daughter). My son and his girlfriend came along to watch and my son, who abandoned his violin when he was doing his GCSEs, was so inspired by it that he asked one of the violinists for the name of the music scores so he could play the pieces. That's somehing considering he's hardly touched his violin in over 6 years.

Yes, she can read music and also plays the piano. HERE is a thread with videos of her playing at her first concert last summer. In that one she also played piano but didn't get the opportunity for this evening's concert. I'm sure older Ditto members must be sick of me going on about her achievements but I'm so proud of her. I agree musical instruments aren't that easy to learn for able people, let alone people with learning difficulties.

I think it's amazing that she is able to play two instruments when most people have difficulty playing one. I'm glad she has such a lovely, supportive mother and that she has had such a wonderful opportunity. I followed the link to her playing but it was taking a while to load so I'll visit it in the morning.

Vickie, you'll notice that same headband in ALL her photos! You don't know how many beautiful new ones I've bought her and she refuses to wear them. Tell her, Vickie, she'll listen to you. Tell her how much prettier her new ones are and that they will match her black clothes so much better.

I hope you're having a good day. I love looking at your pictures, hearing about the beautiful music you play and your wonderful concerts! Remember on your birthday, when I told you that all girls are princesses? That's true, Honey......and you know what brings princesses the best of luck? They never wear the same headband more than once a month.....and ALWAYS a different one for public appearances. I wanted to send you a new one to wear for your next concert but since I'm from the US, your Mum thought it would look like this: or this: so she said,"NO!" - even though I promised to send shoes to match: . I know that your Mum has given you some lovely ones. Why not try some of them on, have pictures taken and you'll see 'change' can be good! (pssst..... Make sure Mum shows me the pics, please, and maybe I can help you choose just the right one for your next performance? )

It's hysterical!! When she'd read it I said isn't Vickie's idea great, and she agreed it was. I then repeated your suggestion of taking a photo of her wearing each of new headbands, and with a very firm reply, she answered, "No!"

Vickie, you were a great help and not an idiot at all!! You explained it so nicely to her and ... it worked!!! She at least made one step and tried them on for a photo but thats only because she loves having her photo taken. She has far too many new headbands so Im only posting three. She has a party this evening and it would be nice if she wore one of her glittery ones for it. Please note what's around her neck. She wouldnt part with it.
