My mother was Italian so Ive never bothered to go down that line because of the additional challenges Id face distance wise and being unable to speak Italian. However, I followed my paternal side which was interesting because I found out things about my paternal grandfather I never knew as he died at a very young age (in his early 30s of Haemophilia). He was a professional musician (clarinet and sax) and met my grandmother at Manchesters Opera House where he used to work. I managed to trace back to his grandparents but came to a halt as they were from Ireland and apparently, Irish census records were burned during the Irish Civil War. One day when I have all the time in the world I will revisit this and have lots of fun filling in the gaps. |

This is a photo of a painting done of my great, great, great grandfather. I will try and find out more from my cousin who gave the photo to me when I visited England in the early 1990's.

WOW! That's wonderful Lindsey. You're so lucky to have that!
I'm confused about the hairstyle. My great, great, great grandfather was born 1849 and the male hairstyles during the time he was an adult was quite short so I recon this painting was taken much earlier. But even during Dickensian times male hairstyles were much shorter than in this painting. I'd be very interested to know when it was painted. |

I have sent off a message to my cousin, and hopefully he will know more than I can remember from our meeting. When I went back to England in 1992, it was the first time since I left as a child. I have been back twice since, but in 1992 we toured for 56 days! I loved every minute of it

I have researched my family tree. I'd like to keep researching, but too many things have been keeping me from it in the last couple of years.
I first got interested in the family tree when my dad showed me what he got from his father and his aunt - the tree all the way back to 1790 which seemed pretty impressive to me when I was just 9. I still think it's pretty impressive. I only managed to get that tree one generation farther back than he had it, but I did fill in a lot if missing people and their bios in the middle of it. There's nobody famous in my family tree so far. |

Lyndsey! The picture is one of Poeticpiers (Ivor) ancestors that Lindsey found for him on the net. It looks like they have both forgotten about this thread. Now Ive seen all your wonderful family history pictures at Chatterbox and read about your amazing collection of artifacts I can see just how passionate you are about your family history! You are so very lucky to have so much! If its okay with you, could you possibly post some of those wonderful photos on our Your old nostalgic photos thread in the Photo forum and/or a thread of your own in this forum? It would be wonderful to share such priceless pics and info! |

Will do! I just found a photo in my dad's closet, an 8 x 10 framed picture of a man I can't identify. I snapped a pic of it with the digial camera and emailed it to my dad's sister to see if she knows who it is. I sure hope she knows. If it's framed, you'd think it would be someone important, but it's definitely not my dad's dad, and it's not either of his grandfathers either. And it's not old enough to be a great grand.

Dang, my aunt doesn't know! So that rules out any of my dad's uncles.
