I just wish I had time to encourage her to focus on mastering a few but she's got such a massive repetouire, by the time she's learned one and goes on to learning others, the previous old ones get rusty.

I guess its basically down to regular, daily practice over the years. Yes, the left hand usually plays the chords so to speak, i.e. the backing, with the right hand playing the melody, though it isnt always the case.

I should thank my sons really because it was them who suggested that she be given the chance to learn violin and piano like them. That was about 12 years ago, around the time they were doing some musical charity performances and Chantal would tag along feeling quite left out as she couldnt join in playing the music with them. We decided to ask our piano teacher who, before assessing Chantal, thought she would be very lucky if she would ever got to play with two hands, let alone read music but to her amazement she did both after just a few sessions. Two years later, after seeing how well shed taken to piano, I asked my friend who is a violin teacher, to give her lessons too and Chantal has continued with piano and violin lessons ever since.

I videoed her practising her today but I should warn you that ....


Actually, shes very good considering what a difficult instrument it is to learn.
