Did these a couple of years ago there abouts. Certainly not perfect re accuracy but I was pleased with the tonal work.

Both of Jeff Buckley, the only inspiration I had to draw since leaving school, and then I only did because I took art for GCSE.

I think they're amazing and you have a great talent, I also think you should find time to take it up again

You.. drew those? They look like black and white photographs.
Suffice to say, I think your skills are spectacular.

Thanks to you both.
Soft pencils achieve a very dark contrast, I've always done that, though people often don't, it takes a lot of time, pressure and pencil sharpening lol. I should draw more, lazyitis. |

Woah!! I'm in total awe! As Stephen says, they're so realistic they look like photographs, especially the top one. I can't draw to save my life and
I always think if someone has a great talent it's criminal to waste it. You really ought to do more!!

Excellent work Heather - very impressive!

Thanks, Julia, Steed.
I do feel like I've wasted time, if I'd drawn regular for the last 17 I'd be a lot better by now maybe. |

Never too late to pick up where you left off, it would certainly be worth the effort

Yeah, you're right. Maybe I'll give it a go tomorrow.

You could make some easy cash with those kind of skills. I'd definitely pay for a portrait.

Thanks for that vote of confidence. My brother dabbled in commissions, but people want something for nothing, and complain and want things altering, struck me
as a nightmare job tbh. My brother is much better than me and he doesn't bother drawing either.

I never drew from leaving school until I was in my 50's Heather so you've got loads of time. (And I'm still crap )
If they are examples of your work get those pencils back out again. I don't know the young man so I cannot comment on the resemblance; but your portraites live, they are very good. Hurry up so I can see the next one. |

Thanks, Irene.
The muse is AWOL for the time being though. I tried and it wasn't working. Maybe I should try a dragon, that might do it. What kinds of things do you draw? |

wow, heather, these are excellent, talented and patient I think! I like the tonal work too. Can you remember roughly how long it took you to draw each one?

Around ten hours each approximately, probably someone more experienced would take less time I would imagine. |

Dragons, yes I want dragons....... Please. I love dragons.
Most of the stuff I do is either portraites or illustrations for my childrens stories. I love experimenting with different mediums. My favourite is water colour and ink. Animals, flowers, anything....... variety is the spice of life. Have you tried mixing charcoal and chalks for portraites? |

Quite a variety then. Speaking of childrens stories, I did two childrens books, quickly gave up on the idea of getting them published but I did around twenty
illustrations for each, with acrylic paint. I generally shy away from anything that's not a pencil though lol, but charcoal is appealing, I might try that.
Have you posted any of your stuff here, Irene?

Awwww!! now these examples definately exhibit the qualities of a professional. I mean that Heather.
Well - have ya got those pencils sharpened up again yet??. We're all waiting for the next drawing. I've no natural ability and can only draw using tools, not freehand, off the cuff sorta stuff like you. I envy folk like you who have an obvious natural gift in this area and whatsmore, like others have already said - it's never to late to pick up from where you left off. I didn't start any of my pixelart or drawing till well into my 50's. |

That's very kind of you to say. Thank you.
I will draw again, but it's fair to say I'll never be prolific. Although maybe I'll change. |
