Here's a great one to start - Steve Vai, ex Whitesnake guitarist with "Tender Surrender"

I'll have to give it some thought. I've heard of Steve Vai obviously but didn't know he was in Whitesnake.

I got the information about Steve Vai from Wikipedia. I knew he was in a big name band but couldn't remember which! Love his expressions! Reminds me a lot
of Carlos Santana-my favourite guitarist from when rock music didn't give me headache! But this "Song of the Wind" is one of my favourite Carlos
Santana solos-very poetic and full of emotion.

I'm not familiar with much of Santana's stuff but who doesn't love Samba Pa Ti. Stunning.
After careful deliberation I'm going to say Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Child. Brilliant guitarist and an iconic track. |

I like Hendrix-but he was a little flashy and gimicky for me-but still a great guitarist as was (is) Eric Clapton.

I'd also rate (in no order of preference) Mark Knopfler, Johnny Greenwood, Jeff Buckley, Steve Cradock, Keith Richards, John Frusciante, Jack White, Johnny
Marr, John Squire, Billy Corgan.

Yep..it's not bad at all.
I don't really have a favourite, there's too many brilliant guitarists out there... |

I'm the same -but surfing You Tube I found this by a band I'd almost forgotten and who I saw live a few times- The Edgar Broughton Band and "Drop
Out Boogie", Can't believe I spent hours listening to these bands and didn't go deaf. I even stood at the side of a massive speaker at a Led
Zepplin Concert and my ears were ringing for about 3 days afterwards.

I don't particularly like guitar music, especially electric guitar, and the thought of Hendrix and the Shadows sort of stuff makes me want to throw up. I
couldn't bear any on what's been posted so far.
That Steve Vai, person looks like a total fool pretending to play that dreadful instrument when
the electrics are doing all the work. He must think we were born yesterday.
I agree Samba Pa Ti is cool - it's an exception, though very dated. The only guitar music I can bear to listen to has to be acoustics and classical. Hehe! Now it's your turn to laugh at mine - Gipsy King's Inspiration is probably my fave guitar solo. It happens to be the one that's been playing on my profile for the past week. |

Better get the bucket ready....
Saw them many times..including the Black Rose tour. The twin lead guitar solo was awesome. Now for acoustic..just type in Ry Cooder in YouTube...and enjoy...that guy...there are no words to describe his skills...

Woah! I really like this, which is odd 'cos I'm not supposed to like electric - I hate electric!! How come I like this? I like this genre whatever it
is.

Yes I like Ry Cooder and his slide guitar. I must state that some of the rockier stuff I am not so keen on now as I prefer quieter music-but I am being
nostalgic on this thread for the days I used to spend most of my free time at Rock concerts. John McLaughlin now and Larry Correll with "Lotus Feet"

The guy you just posted is good, Wayne, but I don't care for the music and I think the accompanist spoilt it.
I am being nostalgic on this thread for the days I used to spend most of my free time at Rock concerts.I know you are, just ignore me - I'm bad. Here - I'll give myself a thump.
I listened to more Ry Cooder but wasn't impressed. The one Keith posted must be a one-off. It's the country and blues element I like. I like this guy Andy Mckee and this particular piece. I found him whilst searching for stuff for Ray. I love the rhythm!
I like this drifting method he applies but I think it'd be a lot better with just the percussion and totally ditching the guitar strings - especially that awful strumming.
