Some "way out" material, Incidentally, Godley and Creme, who were in this band went on to form the more commercial 10CC! Not a lot of people know
that!

Yes it's amazing how long ago this all was now-but most of it sounds Fresh. I used to go to "Stoneground" in Belle Vue Manchester where I saw
some good bands. Vinegar Joe with the wonderful Elkie Brooks (remember her!) and Peter Framptons Camel was another:
and here is Vinegar Joe:

I wish the tracks had titles so I could refer to them quickly, Wayne. I like a few you've posted but don't have the time to explain which. I like Elkie
Brooks but only for her beautiful ballads, Don't Cry Out Loud and Lilac
Wine, which I posted HERE.

The titles are usually at the top of the video-so I don't bother writing them anymore. Elkie was originally in Vinegar Joe before going solo and doing the
more ballad stuff. I remember feeling a bit sorry for her when I saw her in concert with Vinegar-because she was constantly heckled with shouts of "get
your **** out" etc (not from me though!)-but she handled it very well and gave as much as she got! I am not usually a fan of the harsher female voice-but
I like hers and all the stuff she had done over the years.

I saw Family several times- I never went especially to see them but they always seemed to be on the bill at Rock Festivals and University Freshers Balls in the
early 70's! "Weavers Answer" was actually a top ten hit-but this is a longer version. Roger Chapman (the singer) had a habit of throwing his
tambourines into the audience. I think many fans have still got the mementos!!!!

The Family, reminds me of a time when i was stood at a bust stop in Macclesfield in the mid 70s. A hippie type lady came up to me and asked to borrow some money
for her bus fare. As i didn,t know her, and no chance of getting the money back, i said i would pay her fare. She was carrying a "Family "album that
she insisted i have in exchange. I didn't really want it because i had never heard of them. But i took it and thanked her.
When i got home i took it out of the cover to play. It was so scratched it was unplayable. Funny thing is i still have it in my collection. |

Interesting story! I never bought any albums by them, but I quite liked them live-reminiscent of Jethro Tull-but a bit more musically creative I think! Roger
Chapman worked himself up into such a frenzy that I often thought he would burst a blood vessel or something-how he kept it going for a full set I don't
know! But I think he is still around and performing!

It IS an interesting story, Anne.
I don't know whether Slade is considered "far out" but listening to Kodein sing their 'Cos I Love You' HERE has reminded me how much I used to loved that song. |

I was looking for the original 60's version of this song by the United States of America-but doesn't seem to be a record of their version, but I was
very surprised to find a new version by the Northern Picture Library. I thought the song was too obscure to be remembered as it was only an album track by a
band who only made one album I think! It isn't as good as the original-but it will do "Love song for the dead Che"

In the Court of the Crimson King -by King Crimson. Looking over some of the songs included in this thread makes me realise how uncreative modern music is-too
slick and manufactured in general! This was a time of experimentation, innovation and real creativity.
