When I first started posting on another message board in 2006 and went on their forum dedicated to religion, I expected, probably naively, to find other
Christians (and those of other faiths, if any) talking about Christian/religious issues and dogma. I actually discovered that the most vociferous people (apart
from myself) were Atheists who went on that forum expressly to try and rubbish religion. I was always under the impression that Atheists rejected all religion,
and just as I have absolutely no interest in going to Atheist forums it was a bit of a surprise to find, over time, that so many Atheists would go to a
religion forum when there were so many other forums in which to engage in discussions of various sorts. I became involved in many Atheism/Christian and
creation/evolution debates and was always ready with an answer for everything.
I left the said message board over a year ago, but a few weeks ago I was messaged by the owner saying that someone had posted on her religion forum replying to an old post of mine and she suggested I may want to reply. I went back to that forum to find that an Atheist had come across a post I had made some 20 months ago and decided to make a point. I gave an answer and also told him that I hadn't posted on that board in over a year and if he had any further questions about the Bible to contact me via PM.
So, what is it with many Atheists that they are so preoccupied with religion that they spend their time on religion forums and in the case I just mentioned going through at least 20 months worth of posts. Are they afraid of something? Do they feel threatened by religion? If so, why (after all, Christianity seems to be on the wane, almost everything is geared towards the scientific, evolution, secularism etc ...the Atheists have never had it so good!)? Is their state of being (that with no religion) so empty and unsatisfying that they have to direct their philosophical needs towards something they reject because they are actually very insecure without faith, yet try and overcome that insecurity by trying to justify themselves through argument?
Of course there are Christians who visit Atheist forums (although to a much much lesser degree) but they seem to go there to make a point and invite hostility, rather than going to those forums with hostile intent themselves.
