Posts: 2245 (14 Jun, 2009 1:37 AM) Jiggy Dude Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None I bought Norton 360 with my sons laptop and downloaded it onto my laptop as well. Ive had Norton 2008 and 2007 before that, so been Norton for 3 years now. And since then ive had 3 bad virus's that i know about. One cost me £50 to get rid of, payable to Norton!! and the others have just been a pain in the a*e to get rid of. Now heres me thinking that the idea of anti-virus was to stop the little bgg*rs! So, ive at last unistalled it and downloaded a free version of Avast! Antivirus. On the 1st scan it found 24 problems (why didnt Norton find them?), and sofar my laptop is running alot better (touch wood). I'll never put Norton back on my pc. Why pay £30 for something that doesnt work, when you can get one better for free!? So, what does everyone else use?

I´m very content with it, have been using it for over a year and not a single problem although it´s only the free basic version. We use it at work too.

I ditched it eventually and went back to my free AVG which is tons better.

Disgraceful that Norton didn't pick up issues that Avast found, isn't it! I know I keep asking people this and they tell me but I forget .... can I have more than one anti-virus running at the same time and if so maybe I should install Avast too?

And have no problems with it. But most antivirus programs will not even allow you to install a second antivirus program on the same computer, because they conflict with each other. You may however scan online with another program if you like, like Housecall, Kaspersky, and others. Some, but not all the online scanners have to be opened with Internet Explorer. Even if a antivirus program will let you install a second one on your computer, don't do it. They will conflict.

I'm trying out Housecall as I type. It seems to be running fine in Firefox. Edit to add that it's still running - that's nearly 20 hours! Last time I tried it is took an age too which I now remember is what put me off. The good thing is that it doesn't seem to slow down my system much, if at all as it's running. I also run a Anti- spyware program called Malwarebytes anti - malware. And Spybot. But, as Dune says, i wouldnt try to run 2 anti-virus progs together, they just dont get on! Hi Dune! do you have the free version of Avast, like me, or have you paid for the Proffesional Edition?

I can honestly say from my experience that it is better than Norton. All Norton ever did was give me a headache.

You can install their total free Internet security, or use just the firewall, use the antivirus of your choice. I'm using avast! Antivirus, & the COMODO Firewall. All free!

It's a program you download from the internet and they send you a backup copy on a CD through the mail. To be honest, I'm not too sure about freeware...
