They can still stab with hunting knives, collectible knives, utility knives, etc. And can still beat, bludgeon, shoot, bite, kick, choke, burn, and otherwise kill and maim each other, but no stabbing. With kitchen knives anyway.

These are designed in such a way it's impossible to stab through to a major blood vessel or organ. Sure they don't prevent slashing but they go part of the way towards addressing this problem, have been tested by the Home Office and they have the backing of doctors and the police. On subject I carry a Pen Knife, habit I suppose, I think the law states the blade should not be longer then 3ins, I did here that even smaller bladed knifes have been taken away from people. However I feel we should look at the reasons why so many Stabbings take place, and why do people carry what's classed as an offensive weapon. After all you can stab someone with a knitting Needle or a screw driver, so it's not the knife it's the motive to use it in an offensive way we should be trying to alter. A knuckle duster is automatically an offensive weapon because it's designed as one. So is a bayonet or a garotte or a 'throwing star'. A sharpened screwdriver is automatically an offensive weapon because it has been adapted to become one. So is a bicycle chain with a handle. An ordinary screwdriver would become an offensive weapon if the person carrying it was asked, 'What is this for?' and they replied, 'Self defence'. Most charges of carrying an offensive weapon are ancillary to other charges, where someone has actually been hurt and it emerges that a shoe or a half brick or a cricket bat was the weapon. They weren't offensive weapons until an assailant picked them up and used them as such. I always carry a scalpel around with me, along with a pack of spare blades. Scalpels are much better than craft knives for cutting through sticky tape and acetate sheets. They're also pretty good for dissecting human bodies but I don't intend to use mine for that. Anyone who carries a potentially dangerous implement as part of their occupation shouldn't fear being charged with carrying an offensive weapon. It's only if the circumstances make their possession of it suspicious that such a charge might be likely. I wouldn't dream of carrying my scalpel in my bag when I went out for a drink, for example.
